At 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, the center of Fred was located near Columbus, Georgia. It has maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour with higher gusts.
The time frame for the heavy rain and occasional downpours in this area is Wednesday night, Aug. 18 into Thursday, Aug. 19.
Most of the region will see about 2 inches of rainfall (light green in the image above) with up to 4 inches in some parts of the region. (Dark green.)
Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high temperature of around 80 degrees. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms starting in the mid-afternoon and continuing into the overnight.
Wednesday will be cloudy with a high temperature of around 80 degrees with showers and thunderstorms possible starting in the mid-morning and then continuing throughout the day and into the overnight.
Some of the storms will produce heavy rainfall overnight Wednesday and then at times throughout the day on Thursday.
Skies will finally begin to clear on Friday, Aug. 20, which will be partly sunny and warmer with a high temperature in the mid 80s. There will still be a chance of showers and storms, however, mainly in the morning.
